Outta my price range.

Plus I'd need the Hummer to haul it around...and gun mounted on it too..

But, can it tell the difference between a 1 1/2 year old wolf vs full grown coyote at 300 m?

Lol, I believe you could see the hot spot. But how did you know positively it was coyotes and not wolves or dogs? Is it because there were no wolves where you saw this, and therefore it must have been coyotes? Could you make a positive distinction as required when wolves and coyote cohabitate and wolves are fully protected??

Just looking to get some confidence that a thermal costing $$$$ would have definition enough not to result in misidentification and resulting consequences.

That’s interesting. We don’t have to distinguish between wolves and coyotes, but maybe a dog and coyote. About the only thing that I’d “think” would be mistaken would be a German Shepherd. I’ve called in a couple bulldogs before and instantly knew what they were when they cleared the brush. I have no idea where they came from, lol.

Now a coyote and a wolf would be a little different. I’d be nervous because I’ve never seen a wolf in the wild. But I’d think if you’ve observed both in the wild then you could discern the difference. There’s no doubt when I see a coyote in the thermal.

Now with that said, and don’t take this wrong…you get what you pay for with thermals. You can listen to folks on here that will disagree and say their $300 thermal has just as good of an image as a $5K thermal, but that’s a lie. I’m not gonna tell you my thermal has as good of an image as a $10K+ thermal…and yes I’ve looked through a $18K thermal and you can almost see fleas crawling on a critter. I will say this…save until you can get a 640 resolution. I’ve also looked through 384 and SOOOO glad I got the 640.

Scott-aR,
You're not gonna get what your looking for unless you spend more than 4 or 5 grand. Even a 640 resolution isn't gonna do it beyond 75 or 100 yds or so.

What would be the best bang for buck, you guys that own one are preaching pretty hard about 640 resolution.
I was going to pull the trigger on a pulsar Talion xq35 pro, I was trying to stay under or at the 3k mark.
Yall that have done the research, have a recommendation? It will primarily be used on a 300blk and 22lr.

If you’re only spending that much then the thermal Swamp Wolf just got would be the ticket.
Don’t think anyone on here owns a Rix, but I’m hearing some good things about them.

I'm no expert. Still learning.

But, I decided I like these features a lot more after I've had a chance to use mine...

Removable battery - charge it without attached to rifle
Comes with 2 batteries
Each battery lasts 9 to 11 hrs - carry extra in your pocket
Comes with complete charger - not just USB cable
Comes with QD mount (for picatinny) - can remove and use as scanner
Return to Zero when reattached to rifle
Easy to find/feel large control buttons
Power button has tiny red light
Records audio in HD with video, but can turn audio off
Can ID deer/hog-sized critter in excess of 400 yds

For hogs and predators 250 yd shots and under..for my conditions...its perfect!
