Update. Got a slab sawed off a dead chunk of hedge. It has a ridiculous curve but I kinda like it so I'm finishing it.

Looks pretty, but that crack on the one side looks like it would tear up a guy's hands if you used it much.

Best handles. But the powder post beatles will eat that sapwood if they have a chance. I have an all heartwood pickaxe handle that has been left outside for 25 years and it is weathered but still solid and useable.

My friend James makes hammer handles out of Osage Orange that turn out beautifully, that can really take a lot of use. He finally broke an Osage Orange handle for a small sledgehammer, that we both pounded on hundreds of pieces of rusty farm machinery, with great force and 20 some years of use.

I would like to make some hatchet handles out of Osage.
