How rough can I be to the fur when shipping to get tanned?
As in can I bend fold and cram as much as possible into a box or will it leave
Permenant seams in it? I have alway sent it lightly wrapped and boxed but the shipping is
A kiler, looking to try and pack it into as small of package as possible

Will be bobcat fox otter coyote muskrat and possum

I've had luck bending thinner hided stuff. Fox, coyote, marten. lynx. I am wary of bending cardboard hides.

Depends on how they have been dried.
If they have been dried with heat they can crack if bent.
Salt dried skins are very bad for cracking if bent at all.
Pelts dried in low humidity and lower temps around 10-15c are flexible and can be bent or folded no problem.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I ship a box to Z & L every year. I pack hides pretty tight in a box. I wrap the hides in the box in a circle. I’ve rolled up blanket beaver and looped them in the box also. Never had any problems.

You can be pretty rough and things should be fine. Folding fox, cats, coyotes - no problem. When folding coon and otter - fold gently, do not crease the leather. On beaver - I prefer rolling or making them look like a taco, pack other furs inside the taco.

One thing to keep in mind is that fur like fox and coyote are light weight but bulky. If you pack them too loose, it will cost you extra to ship them due to dimensional weight.

All shipping options have a formula they use to figure weight - this formula says that if a box is 18x16x12 , it should weigh a certain amount. If your box weighs less than that, you still for that amount of weight.

Save money. Cram as much as you can in that box and use plenty of tape to hold it shut.

This^^

A taxidermist friend of mine prefers hides salted to go to the tannery. Since he is who I always recommend to anyone I'm selling taxidermy hides to, I usually salt dry hides I am sending to the tannery. If you are salting hides, fold them up before they are so stiff they will crack, dry but not cracking stiff, shake all the salt off them and leave them in the drying room and they will get hard while folded up.

Here's another tip for shipping. I used Pirate Ship last week and saved money on shipping by quit a bit. It was my first time and it is easy. Box your fur up, measure the box, weigh it, print your label and drop it off at a UPS pickup. I live in Kansas and ship to NJ and that can get expensive. Cut my bill by almost half from last year with comparable packages.
