Never tried a reflex sight but that seems like it has possibilities from what I’ve read about them.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I won’t suggest this because I’m sure few will agree.
Killed my first turkey over 40 years ago with just a bead on the end of the barrel.
Swore right then it would be my only turkey ever shot without a scope.
Mounted a straight 4x and have never looked back.
I started shooting at 6 with a scope and I scope everything.
I never have had trouble tracking a bird.

I also have a short tube 4 X scope, on my Benelli SBE. Seldom do I miss a bird today.

because most red dots have unlimited eye relief there is no magnification

there are a few dots with 2 or 3x magnification then they do not have unlimited eye relief

there are also magnifiers that go behind the dot and give you magnification most tip off so the can be out of the way for very close shooting

prism on the other hand have generous but not unlimited are an etched glass that doesn't need power to show the reticle but when you give it power the reticle glows

there are also illuminated reticle scopes especially LPVO low power Variable optic
als MPVO mid power variable optic , I run a bunch of these as 2-7 power scopes none of mine are iluminated

I have a 1x prisim , some dots

my son has a couple of the Vortex strike eagle with illuminated reticle a 1-6 and a 1-8
the 1-8 lacks a little clarity at 8 it is an 8x magnifier and that is an issue that happens you can only magnify so much
these are short tube scopes about 8 inches they work very well

I like to leave it about 1.5X as 1x almost always seems to look to me like 0.9x like your loosing just a touch

vortex makes a 1-4 with illuminated reticle with a simple cross hair , the ilumination is just a dot where the cross airs meet

truglo , Athlon and vortex all make 3x prism sights with illumination

higher magnification makes it harder to find the target because it reduces the field of view.

I have a dot on one shotgun that vortex Venom it is an open type it works for me but I don't have your eye issue
I would say go look through a bunch at an optics dealer and see what you think could work.

I would give serious consideration to LPVO if you feel the need for magnification as it lets you decide how much is right just by turning the collar.

for my shotguns with optics I build up the cheek so that I am looking into the center of the glass when I shoulder it

on my 870 I used a Magpul stock with the high cheek riser
on my 500 rifle barrel slug gun with a 2-7 scope it is sleeping pad, horse wrap and hockey tape.

if your hovering you head around off the wood and you touch off a 1 1/2 or 2 ounce turkey shell it will smack you in the face

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Well dadgum, this is lotta info to process!
Maybe magnification isn’t necessary. I do know I can still put one in a squirrels eye with a scope, bad eye and all.
I think I will try one of those dot sights and see how that works in a hunting situation.
Sure appreciate all the advice! (Except from that Bo guy)

I too was like you, killed many turkeys for 35 years with a bead. But in my mid 50’s I missed
a couple and one was a double with my son. I put a gobble stopper by try glo on especially with tss
when you can reach out further and I’ve never looked back. Killed 9 birds deader than dead, some
past 44 yards.
