I caught this nice 55pound beaver this morning and it’s tail looked interesting, I would have thought a turtle had gotten to it but it was completely healed over and I didn’t think a turtle would go after a live beaver. Any guesses on what could have caused it?

Beaver bites can be brutal especially if one is ganged up on.
But i'd say that might be a predator bite, maybe an otter?
Whatever happened that's a good one

Most likely old bites imo. Could be boat prop also?

I highly doubt it’s from a boat prop, it was caught in a small stream flowing from a pond, too small for any boats with a motor. The only lake around is 20+km away.

I see that all the time especially in the river where territories overlap. From fighting I’ve always assumed

Beavers eat on and chew down trees. In the spring they fight. A lot. I have seen quite a few chewed up tails. Probably didnt happen in just one brawl. Run a early spring beaver line and a lot of your plews will have fresh holes in them. Beaver in a trap cant get away or fight back too good. Especially if its dead.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
