Does any one have a recommendation for a good powder for the 308 I recently picked up?

Other than powder, I have everything I need to start developing loads, I bought some 130 grains Barnes TTSX, 150 grain Barnes (TSX),165 grain Barnes TTSX, and 165 grain Hornady CX. (Remember, all lead free for the great state of California). At least I found www.submoashooting.com where you can buy samples of 12 bullets instead of a box of 50 for load development.

Thanks guys!

As soon as I get home I’ll post mine for that bullet. I use it in 5 different 308s.

That's what I used, and I got good results. I shot 110 grain spire, 130 grain hollow points and 150 grain spire.

I stumbled upon Varget several years ago. Very consistent regardless of temperature as I shoot it all year long from ground hogs to deer. I shoot 165 Noslers BT at 44.0 grains and 155 lapua Scenar at 44.5 grains. They are not barrel burners but are very repeatable. Remginton 700 VS 24" barrel and both shoot 1/4" or better at 100 yards and this past Sunday put up a 1 1/2" 5 shot group at 500 yards after cleaning and then fouling the barrel.

I use H4895

works in 223 , 30-06 , 30-30 , 308 all reasonably well and for your gas guns doesn't make to much gas port pressure for service rifles

42.5gr under 180gr Speer BTSP avg mv 2625fps work up to that it is a half grain under book max

I do wish it was as easy to find as it used to be.

I've always used 3031. At least 50 years now.

you need a friend in a country that can buy them , repackage and send to a country that will still ship to Russia , I hear Finland has some trade with Russia yet

nothing is leaving the US headed for Russia directly.
my wife ships farm implement parts to Russia , had 2 containers that left just days before the Ukraine thing kicked off it got turned around when it made it to the exit port and sent back

Hmmm, KOSOI - have you checked with your mail service for any restrictions on your end ? Then I would ask any of the reloading supply businesses, such as Midwayusa, Graff & Sons, etc.

3031 is about standard and common with lots of load data.

The great thing about the .308 Win is that it works with lots of different powders. I use IMR-4064. If you know anyone that reloads, see if you can borrow a few loads worth of different powders and use the one your rifle likes best.

Lots of Varget suggested here, me too. Temp friendly and seems to like lots of different bullet weights. Can be tough to find here, but I bought a few pounds 8 or 9 years ago for $28lb.

Started years ago with 3031.
Changed to H 380 with better results and book says lower pressures
Change to VARGET, more consistent with temp changes and lower pressures again
Then started throwing the BARNES 150 gr. TSX. Lower pressures yet, very accurate. Half grain under max and they are moving at 3000 fps. Amazing for the 308. No need to go heavier on the bullet. Penetration, bullet weigh retention and performance will amaze you.
