Finally got around to uploading this video to youtube. I had a pretty cool moose encounter last year when out archery hunting for elk. I was set up on a wallow and the cow and bull came down to the wallow. It's about 18 yd from a makeshift blind i had made. It got a bit hairy for a minute when the two calfs came in from behind me and stopped just a few feet away. Being inbetween mama and her calf is never a good place to be unless you're looking for some excitement.. Lol.

That was very cool. Obviously, whatever you are doing for scent control works too!

I have nothing clever to put here.

Moose are getting thick, to the point where you have to watch out for them while Elk hunting in Co . The Bulls show little fear if any of humans.

Great encounter.

Hopefully you were out of the area wolves weren't introduced.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Awesome!!!! I have had cow and calf not like me to be around a few times. Going down fishing through the willows and ran into mom and calf once and I was lucky to get out alive.

That seems to be the case where I'm hunting as well. I've had a moose within rifle range each of the four times I've hunted this unit, and several within archery range. I looked into drawing for a tag. As a non-resident the chances were about .02% so I didn't even bother.

Yes, Nessmuck, my pucker factor was pushing 10. I wasn't worried about the calf that walked up on me, it was momma, who thankfully was downwind and had no idea I was there.

Gotta love those fun encounters that make a person really pucker but then it all works out great! Don’t think there’s many moose in the particular area we hunt, just lotsa cattle that aren’t afraid to chase and mess with you.

Hopefully this fall you’ll have an elk standing around like the moose was! Just applied for CO elk muzzy last night, the juices are flowing! Happy trapping! ScottW

Sweet video! They sure are cool critters.

I had this one at 18 yards 2 years ago in Colorado also elk hunting. I first spotted his buddy bedded about 60 yards out while I was still hunting. Alls I saw was the glint from the leading edge of his antlers through the brush. I thought he was a 35 inch wide mulie! I ended up smacking this one with a snowball before he got too close.
