By weight.

I believe this was discussed quite some time ago, but?

Here's my thoughts. Talking spring caught beaver.

Kits, 15-20lbs.

Two year olds, 27-33lbs.

Three year olds, 40-47lbs.

Four year olds, 50-55lbs.

After that, I don't have an opinion. I have caught them as heavy as 86.5lbs, big female.

What's everyone else think?

Doesn't sound unreasonable. Since I don't weigh many beaver I usually assess guessed ages by how large they stretch. Kits: M to LM, 1.5 year olds L- XL, 2.5 year olds: XL-XXL, 3.5 year olds XXL-XXXL

I have caught smalls which obviously would be this year's kits but maybe only a handful in my life. Also, you'll notice I don't say 1 year olds or two year olds. In Oregon our trapping season is over before a beaver's birthday arrives.

I am in agreement with those weights as a general rule. Food availability and early/late litter can have a big effect on 1 year old springtime weights in my area..
