Looks good to me! If you get it tanned, the places the knife got too close will appear!

Looks great for your first one.
A little more scraping right after it was boarded to get rid of those couple fatty spots by the tail would have been good, but those spots will dry up regardless.Leg holes look a tad big.
Good job on a prime beaver.Be careful pulling the nails, those beaver have thin papery skin in places.

Better than my first one looked. It gets better the more you do.

Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.

Turtledale, there are no eyes or ears. I’m not sure if it’s correct or not but my instructor who taught my trapping course told us to cut it off. I just laid the fleshed skin against the board and the face kinda sticks out of the oval pattern so he said to cut the face off if that’s the case, making more of a perfect oval. He’s the only one I’ve seen do it but I followed his instruction. Please let me know if this is incorrect

Industry standard is to cut off the nose and whiskers about 3/4 to 1 inch ahead of the eyes.Leaving them on will cost you a size grade if they are on the size line as beaver are measured from 1 inch ahead of the eyes.

Pretty good job for your first beaver. Other than cutting off some of the head end, the only thing I’d add is maybe tighten up the spacing on some of your nails. But overall, an excellent job.

Looks like a very fine first.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo
