Clearly this is the most stupid law New York Dems have ever come up with. If a coyote looks like a wolf, it must be turned in for testing. If it is, all canine trapping and hunting will be shut down.

TITLE OF BILL:

An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to
protecting wolves


PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:

To provide additional protections for wolves migrating into New York
State and to require the department of environmental conservation to
collect genetic data on large canids in order to more fully understand
the presence of wolves in the state.


SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section one amends the environmental conservation law by adding a new
section that includes the following provisions: Requires all wild canids
(this includes coyotes and wolves) taken in the state to be checked and
tagged; Requires DNA analysis be performed on taken canids that are over
fifty pounds to determine if the canid is a wolf; if such a canid is

determined to be a wolf, the DEC would impose a moratorium on canid
hunting; the DEC shall submit a report to the legislature on the status
of wolves in the state; and, the DEC shall modify its hunting and trap-
ping training curriculum to include information on wolves and reflect
this legislation.

Might be ploy tree huggers are planning to use to shut down trapping.

These bills are still in committee and hopefully will not pass. This all stems from the so called wolf taken in Otsego County.it took 3 dna tests to determine it was supposedly a wolf. If these bills become law it will become a logistical nightmare for hunters, trappers and the nysdec, and will insure most coyotes harvested will end up in the ditch.

Anyone who proposes a bill like that should be fed to the wolves or coyotes or dogs of any kind.

Makes as much sense as in WA having to turn in cleaned, dried lower jaw of bobcats for aging instead of just a,tooth
