Membership rosters, affect barrowing power with the banks as well, unfortunately there are churches who push membership for this purpose as well.

Being a member of a church or any organization also brings with it opportunities or obligations to provide service. If one does not want to provide service or help the church or organization then not becoming a member may suit you well. Being a member of a church to me does not make me closer to God but helping to serve others who find church membership important for them in their faith journey is a service and committment I believe in.

Belonging to a congregation can also help with accountability, not to mention support in times of trials.
