The 500 is a work horse. Some years back I bought the 835 and it was the worst scatter gun I've ever ever owned.

I have both and I see very little difference in performance -however I do prefer the safety position on the 500 - but other than that the are very dependable just point and shoot

if your lucky enough to live in the BIG woods your lucky enough

Well I have a mossburg 500 The first problem I had with It Is that safety would engage all On It's own. I sent It In and It was fixed.

Then It seems to not what to shoot turkeys. That gun has not fired on 5 turkeys. Then you can take It and run 3 rounds through It and It will fire every time. The last time I used It I pulled the trigger and It clicked I pulled the trigger again and It fired.
I hate that gun.

part of that is why I replace the plastic safety with metal as it was when it passed the 1000 round tests

click then click with out racking the slide or you did rack the slide

I have seen bolts get very gummed up with oil

It missed fired and I just pulled the trigger again and It fired. I didn't rack the slide.

The other times It missed fired the primers didn't seem to be dented enough. And I had that gun cleaned and It still did It. And It ONLY HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE A TURKEY IN MY SIGHTS.

Ok I only thought my 835 was the worst of shotguns. You need to either name that things Christine or re-home it fast Beav.

Mabye it's just the shells more then anything? Using the same box /lot ? I know I've had some weird stuff happen with Winchester primers

Possibly. I'm not sure. Like I said, it's only happened with Winchester shells. Mostly buckshot. When I got it back the second time it misfired with a Winchester white box target load. It's always a light primer strike and when I rack it and pull the trigger again it will go off.

Same here. But It's not the shells because It happens with different shells. And It only happens when I'm "sitting" In my blind. I can get up pump another shell In and off It goes.

I bought a 12 ga maverick when they first came out.
Killed a ton of stuff with it,never a problem and then sold it.
Far as I know the guy still has it.
I doubt he used it as much as I did though.
I also had the Mossberg 500 in 410-great little gun, killed a ton of grouse and rabbits with it then gave it to my cousin in Ireland for pigeon and snipe shooting.
