Yep, that is how a taxidermist does it here. They turn out perfect.

I would like to try to clean up a couple wolf skulls. How long should I boil them to clean without damaging them?

I would like to try to clean up a couple wolf skulls. How long should I boil them to clean without damaging them? I just did my first deer head a couple week's ago. 5 hours seemed to work. I stopped as soon as all the tissue was off the bone, or could be picked off easily. Also, didn't boil, just simmered, right below boiling. I added oxi-clean powder every hour or so. Changed water after the first hour, it was really greasy with lots of floaties.

Boco remove the brain prior to simmering if possible. I never let mine boil. Ever. These deer are ready for their first wash in 2 hours. Back in the simmer for 30 to 45 min for final pressure wash. I simmer in a mixture of o I-clean and dawn. I’ve done one wolf and I think I did him in a large crock pot. Then whiten in salon 20 volume peroxide. Bring it to a boil then shut off heat. Put head in for around 20 minutes. Good luck.

I also remove everything I can off the skull prior to the simmer. Eyes, tongue etc.
