I half wonder if people are so worried that they will get a fine , citation , or worse for shooting a big cat or a bear , that they wait too long , then may waste ammo on a warning shot and may never get a real shot.
they are trying everything to not shoot the cat or bear. when as soon as they yelled while raising the gun and it , didn't turn tail the shot should have been taken.

Well, if it's a DLP shoot you have to worry about the game warden questioning your intentions and citing you, then you don't value your own life a safety as much as you should.
I refer to liberal states game commissions and their practices. I understand GWs have to do their job, but if I fear for my life, I will take the fine if the idiot will not see my point of view.
My thought is it is better to speak to an idiot game warden than fight a hungry cougar.
What is wrong with people now and not wanting to defend themselves?
How many lies will people believe before they realize their own idiocy?

And for goodness sake, after it is dead, bury it as quickly as possible, run away and shut up. There are thousands more to take it's place.

they are brow beaten that they will be persecuted to the point of bankruptcy or worse so they make it the absolute last possible thing they will do and then it still costs them their life trying not shoot too soon.

late 70's early 80's I was a lot tougher than I am now. Had a line in some remote stuff in CO. I walked a lot. Nothing colder than being horseback so a lot of days I walked. About a ten mile round trip. Two different times when walking out I saw lion tracks where I had been followed without knowing it. Lions were hunted pretty hard back then. Feared humans. I think I was followed out of curiosity. I caught one of them in a bobcat set. It got loose with a 2 longspring on its foot over two pads. Ran it down with dogs next day. Trap still on it.
hunting pressure IMO reduces attacks on humans considerably.

Shoot that joker and shove it off a mountain side, lol. I like me too much to let it get me. It’s my understanding, the issue with cougars is there’s “generally” not much warning. The only time I’d ever encounter one would be in my turkey travels. Walking up or down a mountain in the dark isn’t the best situation to be in, especially with no lights or just a red headlamp. I carry plenty of extra ammo. A neck knife, pocket knife, and belt knife. NO, I don’t think I could take on a dominant predator with a knife, but if I’m ambushed, I want to inflict as much damage as possible to possibly save my life.
