2 different county prairie tags and a WI tag I still can get a Black Hills tag and 2 MO tags then a WY tag if I have the time for turkey.

Anybody else draw any tags this year?

The Nebraska non resident turkey tags sold out in about 15 days in January. 10,000 of them. Last year I bought mine in late March. Other than when Nebraska kept us all safe by not allowing tags to be in the woods turkey hunting in 2020, this will be my first year in about 15 not going there. I did draw a tag in SD.

Didn’t realize those were draw states. Thought about every state was OTC.

Nebraska used to be unlimited, up to 3 tags per person. With the decline in numbers, it’s limited the last two years. I think other states are lowering tag numbers as well as the decline in numbers seems to be nationwide.

Definitely declining here in my area of southern illinois. Edit and we are a draw state and only get 5-7 days to hunt them depending on which of the 5 seasons you draw.

Seems the coon and opossum population and the coyote have had a very hard effect on the turkey population.
That's all across the country.

I won't hunt them I don't believe but they are all over the ranch here also. These are pictures from late last week. They are starting their mating ritual and have been very vocal lately.

I hunted turkey with a passion during the 80' and 90's , 20's became a problem , haven't hunted them in 10 years now.
I personally find only the breast worth eating, the legs are full of splinter bones, and not much meat anywhere except the breast.
Similar to grouse, only bigger.
Used to pluck them( big pain in the butt) roast them, and deep fry them.
Last few , cut the breast into finger type pieces, breaded and deep fried,
Dip in barbeque sauce , good eating.
Noticed that roasted was good eating , but dry, and they tasted like the hickory nuts or ramps they were feeding on.
Just interesting, and still good eating.

Prairie tags are a draw the Black Hills you buy online in SD. We had a season Black Hills tag and a late season tag (May) but they dropped the late tag. SD and WY both mover their opening day to late April.

WY has some draw areas and some general over the counter tags.

About the same here. When tags cost more than a 20# butterball, ready to cook, I quit hunting them. After taking a couple with a bow, the novelty wore off, also.

I don't want them in the yard or garden. We do like to eat them, we fry the breast and giblets and pressure cook the legs and thighs with some seasonings. They are some of my favorite wild game to eat. I can sell the tail, wings, feet and beard and more then pay for the tags. No hunting expense except for a couple shotgun shells. In the fall we can get two or three at a time with cheap #8 shot.

Hope y’all write up y’all’s hunts. My trips are cancelled this year. Hip is great, the muscles still ain’t up to par for climbing any elevation. I can climb, but I wouldn’t be able to give it days in a row and I’m not paying double airline prices plus license cost when I can’t give it 100%. Guess that 12-18 months fully recovered time wasn’t a joke.

The smart ones are a challenge in the National Forest areas here keep things interesting other places bwith wild bird no barnyard birds for me that’s not my thing. Chislic is the best way to eat them that I’ve found keep what little moisture in the meat sealed in there.
