Hey Slick! George Kortum was weighing beaver at our sale yesterday! LOL I can't complain, he paid good money for mine...I was a little nervous that with somewhat lackluster FHA results I might get hurt. He must have left his glasses at home.

Hey Slick! George Kortum was weighing beaver at our sale yesterday! LOL I can't complain, he paid good money for mine...I was a little nervous that with somewhat lackluster FHA results I might get hurt. beaverpeeler, You made the right move on not shipping beaver or otter to FHA. I think the buyers and sellers commissions, CITES fees, packaging fees, tumbling fees, etc. are really starting to drag FHA averages down WELL below many of the larger state association auctions. Glad to see OTC pull off another successful auction! I'm glad some shippers seem happy with FHA's auction, but I was honestly quite "underwhelmed ", and they will not be seeing any of my fur again this year. I've sold George K. large batches of marten years back, and he always paid well above auction prices on them. I think in this new day and age, the larger overseas buyers that have contacts in North America have figured out how to bypass all the auction fees, which in many cases they can pay less than at auction, with the trapper STILL receiving MORE, since FHA isn't taking 20% or more of the value as "their" share. Country buyers don't take anywhere near as high of a percentage of the value as "their" cut. Guys like George and other state association auction buyers, have specific demand for some items for their own direct manufacturing needs as well, in which case they will often pay well above FHA returns. Good deal, and happy to see buyers/ sellers at both FHA and OTC seem to be pretty happy, and nice to see an upward trend on some species!!

We only had 250 beaver on our sale but with 450 cats and the cat market red hot we had pretty much all the best buyers present. Even Pappas came up for this sale.
I didn't get to see OTC final results but I'm sure the cat trappers were happy.

Had nine female mink left over from last year. They averaged 9 bucks which surprised me.

I hope the higher pluck/shear beaver market keeps all those northern heavy beavers out of the hatter market so these southern beavs maintain the current pricing....lol
Also, with the bottoming out of the ranch fur industry, maybe you mink and rats trappers will continue to see increasing prices. Hopefully the wild fox market improves too...but, won't do me much good...we don’t have many reds and the greys have vanished too.

Had nine female mink left over from last year. They averaged 9 bucks which surprised me. Surprising to see a little life back in the wild mink market(100% sold at what looks to be 13 usd avg) This must be due to a dwindling supply of ranch mink. Maybe rats set to climb in the next couple sales. Be interesting to look for that trend.

Probably go back to the doldrums if I do. I'm sending beaver even though I don't have as many or as good of ones as normal. Probably not many selects in the bunch. Tough season with not enough ice, but not much open water and not the time when I needed it.

Strong sell thru rate on bobcats of 93%.Good to see. Looks like they moved 100K rats which not great but at least they sold them. There was some decent sales in the country on rats this season so someone has orders. maybe you could sell them to country buyers?
That's what I mostly do. I'm just holding out. Good thing I have a day job!
