Have you ever seen them grow any bigger after you spot them?
I have never seen one get any bigger, I've took measurements and watched until they they died. I hear guys say they will leave them and come back 6-8 hrs later and they have grown 3+"

I don't believe so. What is your experience,,,,,, Grow or No??

The only morels I have seen grow were just barely pushing through the leaves, next to others that were regular size, that I picked. They were small and they didn't look right yet. They were large and normal looking the next day.

Yes they continue to grow if they get what the need to grow. Warmth and water.

I don't believe 3" in a few hours story. lol

Last year I dug up a couple and brought them home and grew them over a week+.

I asked the same question at the feed store today old timers say no some of the younger guys say yes for three day's. Guess I'm in the old timers camp. Lol

I've found small ones that I covered with a piece of bark.
After a week they doubled in size.
Know of people covering them with jars, and they grew bigger.
There's no way those 10-12 inch yellows grew that big over night.

Some Morels are midgets and some are Giants, catch the giants when small, and yes they will grow.

It's not the size but color. All those little Grey's are actually immature yellows
Main this is sun and wind. Keep both off and they will continue to grow. Once they change color they are down.
Best success is to bury each one in a foot of leaves. Check every 2 or 3 days.
I've had one that started a half in tall. 3 weeks late it wad eleven inches tall. Over the 3 weeks it went through 5 growth spurts.

Give it a shot on a couple little Grey's. Not much to loose.

I read the other day that if you dump the water that you soak your shrooms in in the right place, you'll have shrooms there next year. Not sure I believe it.
Best shrooms I ever found is where there was a grass fire the previous fall and the ground was black in the spring. Obviously was warmer because of that and we couldn't eat all of the shrooms.

How long does one have between when they first begin to emerge until they go bad in the field?

Fungus gnats or Sciaridae can lay eggs below ground in the morels and the larvae can take only 4 days to go through a cycle.
A good dog can find them one day prior to coming above ground

Of course they grow. They don’t pop up as giant yellows, they start as little grays. Ack is correct. Cover them and keep them from dryin out and they will get bigger.

Sometimes it may only be a couple days. I've also had them take 3 weeks.
Remember color is the key. Once they turn yellow they are done.

Don't be surprised that when those little Grey's mature a lot of the time there will be more come up overnight when yhe little Grey's mature.
