Flying in mid April to see daughter who is coming in for 3 week training with Air Force. Will be there for Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon. What are the must see and do things for a flatlander? Eats, Breweries, sights, not into music venues.

Rent a car, and get the heck out of the city. Either go to the south to the Kenai (lots of traffic) or go north to Denali Park or along the Denali Hiway (Cantwell to Paxson). In my opinion, nothing worth seeing in Los Anchorage.

Head south from Anchorage and after you watch the tide in Turnagain Arm, keep going but then take the turnoff to Hope. If it is anything like the last time I was there in 2008 you will come to a tiny little bar with about 9 barstools and about a dozen taps with some of the best micro-brews around. Order a burger, drink a beer or two, and enjoy your time.

Absolutely right !
Just make sure your car has a rear view mirror ! That's all of Anchorage you need to see.
Head north as Gulo suggests.Lots of nice scenery and more interesting stuff in Fairbanks.
The Denali Highway is very scenic but most rental car agencies don't want you to drive it. It can be pretty rough and I am not sure if it will be open by that time.

The Denali highway will not be open in April. I agree with what has been posted, and I'll add to what I posted earlier. A day down to Homer would be a long but scenic drive. The drive to Valdez is amazing if the weather is good.
We went to the shop where they make ULUES , This was 20 years ago, so may not still be operating. My wife uses her ulu, most days. Good souveniers. Also has a sharpener , for it On a back street if I remember right. old 243

The wife and I flew out there for ten days in late may and we didn't have a clue where to go. All I know is that anywhere but Anchorage was breathtakingly beautiful. We didn't bother taking many pictures because they would not do any justice compared to seeing in person.

The Anchorage museum would be safe starting point, learn about the STATE this will help understand how big and difference in region's. Anchorage zoo nice walk. Going south pass Girdwood, do you ski? Nice resort still Next choice being seward a couple of hours or homer 6 hours. Hotels and good food at both. Museums at both .martime themed. Possible chances to fish charter boat at either. Spring salt water kings or even halibut. Going north (think long road trip) not alot but great scenery. Fairbanks must is University of Fairbanks museum. You will really like the gold history. Days of light will be much more than your used to. Phone service will not be a problem along most area roads. Have fun

Looks like Bore Tide in the Arm is April 9-11. I agree with the above that getting out of town is the thing to do. Only thing I like about Anchorage is that there’s no sales tax
