I just got done cleaning the brains out of a moose skull that I found this winter. It was in my heated garage for a couple months. It is pretty ripe. Nice and creamy. Seems like it would have some use in a bait. Anyone ever use tainted brains?

Back in the late 70's I knew a guy that caught coyotes by blind setting traps in the gaps in sage brush, roughly a circle. He tossed a gob of rotted beef brains into the center and caught them circling. I think doing that with snares rather than traps would still work. They do have attraction.

Great base that has several attributes. Very palatable is one of them

I'm with Yes Sir. I add brains to most meat-based baits. Creamy and far reaching. That's the reason skulls hold so much interest to predators . . . they can smell the brains that have seeped into the bone mass.

The old timers used to mix brains and castor to make a getter bait that I'm told was pretty good.

Brains are pretty much fat.

Fatty acid smell.

Plus they’re just a pleasure to work with. You can prep them with nothing more than a potato masher.

Thank you for the replies. I’m glad I saved them.

This is probably the only place on the internet that talks about whether or not a rotten moose brain is delicious.

Not to mention the culinary secretes of preparation with a potato masher.
