I reckon, the oats are to make it seem healthy? Pretty Basic 4 cup all-purpose flour 2 cups of buttermilk Teaspoon salt..teaspoon of Baking soda. Tablespoon honey Mix to a shaggy ball .. And then bake.... You can put this together in 10 minutes And 35 minute bake...all done

Eddie....what's your Grandma's Irish Soda Bread recipe? I dint have it, but recon my Mother has. Maybe I'll get it, before she dies lol. For the most part, that recipe is pretty close to the old recipe. Traditionally, this bread was not sweet. Flower, salt, buttermilk, and baking soda. That was it. Nowadays, some people often add a tablespoon of sugar. Some add an egg, maybe even a little butter. Have you ever tried current bread? It's my favourite. Usually called and pronounced curn cake, or curn bread. It's the same as soda bread, but with a cup of currents added. Slice it up, and spread a good layer of butter on it, and your favourite jam. Often ate a whole cake of it, in a day. It's never as nice the second day.
