I have never seen a .444 like that one. Mine is a early 80's version (the S), has a pistol grip stock and no barrel band. That looks like a 1st model made from 1965-1971. The only other model w/o pistol grip is the .444P made from 1999-2001, and it does not have a barrel band. That is a VERY cool find. I am scratching my head on that one too. Checkered straight grip stock, forearm band and 2/3 magazine.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Nice rifle. 444 is a reloaders dream. 265 grainers are the cats meow. Bear doesn't have chance. Sarge

I have always read that the .444 is a very capable round. I would love to have that and an 1895 in .405 Win but I am told it is hard on the shoulder too.

A-Frame bullets are great. You will a complete pass thru. Easy blood trail. To me, the .444 isn't a hard kicker, more of a shove. Sarge

The pro’s- very nice rifle. The con’s-it will kick the crap out of you. I have owned a few like that And they will always look nice because I am not a fan of recoil There for if it kicks so bad I quickly decide not to shoot it very much in the future Any gun i own is considered a hunting gun And I have little use for a g un that is not fun to shoot

Mine (a .444S) does have a kick, but no worse than a .30-06 and is perfectly manageable. This is the site where I found info on the different models and their years of manufacture: https://1895gunner.com/gunroom/marlin444home.html I see now that MT's find IS checkered and doesn't have the high comb shown for the first model. It also has the square lever vs rounded, and a barrel band that is only shown on the first model. Confusing at best. It would be interesting to know what the model number and serial # indicate as date of manufacture. There is other more detailed info available on the web regarding exceptions where old parts were still being used despite new model designs having been introduced, but it gets very complicated very fast.

Same here, mine is a straight Canoe Paddle stock, BUT, has NO checkering, a flat finish, with a barrel band. Shoots like a wet dream!
