Yep kill them every year.. My father that is in his late 70 now goes pretty strong which he has for years. Many years ago when a atv's were half the price he purchased one with his gopher money from that season.

Been pushing up the fields here for almost a month already. Thought it was old hills but they kept growing and multiplying since.

white cliffs,,as a kid we got the same as you on both species. but back then, i took that quarter to the local cafe, and got a fresh baked cinnamon roll swimming in a pool of frosting, and a shortie bottle of coke, and got a nickel back from that quarter. i guess times have changed huh?

The Camas pocket gopher is the largest average size one in the country. It only lives in Oregons Willamette Valley. Lucky we are. They do get bigger than those above. Have caught a few that measured 13 inches not counting the tail.
The very best trap I have found for it is the Magnum Gophenator. It is by far much easier to set then the Cinch trap pictured above.
Worth quite a bit more from grass seed farmers and others then the prices paid in the bounty states.

Them and moles pay my winter trapping fuel bill plus some.

Betting WWS gets quite a bit more for them then I do.
Ted

Picked up my first one of the year two days ago, a full six weeks earlier than last year. [Linked Image]
Townships pay $4.00/tail with the local cellular phone company matching it in some townships. Some engineers decided to coat the fiber optics with coating made from soybean oil. Gophers think its like a buffet table so match the bounty and still can't get kids to trap them. Locals are tickled to have me come put and trap them with some matching the $4.00 bounty. Trapping gophers has opened up alot of doors for me in regards tp properties too!

Save them for coyote trapping this fall. There's not a better bait down the hole in gopher country. Must be the Wiley coyote/Roadrunner thing. They lost their minds.

Even at $12 a head it takes a bunch to match what I charge. But they make me carry 2 million in liability insurance. I trap for the county parks, school district, several city’s, transit agency and private property owners.

Things change a lot. I grew up in west-central WI started trapping pocket gophers in 1957 at age 10. We got 25 cents from the township per tail. The first year I made enough to buy 1 dozen 1. single longs through Montgomry Wards and the end of the 2nd year I bought a $5 bike so I could long line (lol) ! Fiesty buggers those pocket gophers. The farmers with hay fields disliked them a lot and also the badgers that would dig them out.
