My S&W 642 +P is at the ready 100% of the time. Simple to use, built in laser light comes on automatically. There is no safety
to find. Revolvers are just more dependable IMO.

For EDC I’m not carrying a revolver.
For home defense I’m got grabbing a revolver.
For walking my trapline I’m carrying a revolver.
During burn season I carry a revolver.
A revolver just isn’t my go to, if my life is on the line.

The SW air weight is a great gun. You can shoot it through a jacket, use a pocket holster in your front pocket wearing dress pants. The main advantage is no shell chasing left on the ground.

Revolves have their place

is that on a stage that requires more rounds than the gun holds ,NO
even a D class shooter with 21 round magazines makes an A class revolver guy look slow on a 24 round stage well really anything over the capacity of the revolver.

but if you only need 5,6 rounds whatever your revolver holds then they do just fine.


now as to the more reliable or never fail or can't fail , They can absolutely fail and do fail if you have a primer back out you are DONE
when they fail you are DONE
you can carbon up the forcing cone and bind the cylinder , dirt gets in the wrong spot , you are done , your actually more likely to toss a glock in the mud then fire it than toss a python in the mud and have it work right.
you don't tap rack and get back in the action

Safer , now I will buy that argument on a SAA single action army that has a transfer bar
you could drop a say Ruger Super blackhawk off a cliff and unless it lands on some one or sends a rock tumbling it isn't going to hurt anyone.
there are absolutely semi auto pistols that can do the same just not all of them. but ditto on not all revolvers are drop safe almost no S&W is fully drop safe
and back to that SAA if you thumb back the hammer then decide you need to lower it , there is the potential you slip and it fires in a not at all good place to have a gun fire.

as to double action revolvers are they any safer than a double action semi auto , they seem exactly equal with a possible leg up as to the drop safety in the semi auto.

another place revolvers shine is frame mounted optics and the ability to go mild to wild on ammo and not have to worry about cycling this is of course because they are manually actuated so the same argument as a pump vs a semi auto.
you pay for it in trigger pull on the revolver unless your firing single action.

back to ammo snake shot becomes an option if your in a snake area.


most thing other than capacity and ammo flexibly to some are not hard and fast arguments.

Why would anyone try to decide between the two.

For the money and reliability it’s hard to beat a glock. I love good revolvers though. Just today I was gifted a Smith model 63 .22. The same guy gave my son a Smith 651 in .22 mag. Dang if they didn’t fire, you could just pistol whip someone. Those old smiths are great built pistols.

Kinda surprised no one has started whining about folks calling revolvers, pistols. There's usually one in ever group. lol

The woman has a revolver. I never have to worry about it going off it she ever needs it. I have mostly autos cuz I like them. But they will never be as reliable as a revolver.

That statement has a lot of variables. Blanket like that and it's false. It depends on what revolver and what auto your talking about. In 23 years my Glock has always went bang never failed never. I don't baby it haven't cleaned it in years other than wiping dust and pieces of weeds off and wiping it down with a rag or blowing weed seeds out of it. My sone h and r .22 the barrel came loose, the cylinder got out of time and would shoot prices of lead out of the sides from the cylinder gap. It also shoots 4" left and 1" high from point of aim at 10 yards.

I snugged the barrel back up and got it timed better. It's ok for a 5 yard trap line but it's not in any way a gun I would consider reliable. Before I worked on it I wouldn't let the kids shoot it. Especially since I have a single 10 and a few mark 2 Ruger for them to use. But the h and r was a gift to my son from a family member so I couldn't throw it away, and there was no since having it sit around useless. And it made a good trap hunt this season. But I had a back up Incase it failed. All guns can have issues regardless of type.

I remember when some cops used to rely on a revolver as their preferred duty weapon.

The guy on Walking Dead, (Rick?) carried a 6" Colt Python. Did some good work with it.

there was also a time the door handles in back of the squad car and there was no cage.

a friend of mine was a Deputy 1976 to 1986 saw things go from just a normal car with working door handles and lock buttons in the back and no cage to the first prisoner they had walk away at a stop sign the levers were removed from the inside of the back of the car.
by 86 the cars were getting cages.

in the 60s and 70s stake-out squads the term New York Reload was born , Jim Cirillo and the stake-out squad he was famos for being the most experienced gun fighter of the time. they were required to carry the issue 38spl , they could carry a "backup gun" for some that was a 1911 other chose other guns, so some of them carried more than one 38spl when it was empty it was just dropped as it was faster to draw the back up than reload.

they also used shotguns any time they could often cut right at the mag tube about 13 inches others were the extended tube 20 inch models that held 8 rounds

I think revolvers are outdated for police work today. The cops need more bullets to hit there target .

Key words "bullets to hit there (their) target".

I think more bullets fired would solve this issue. But the does not mean they need more capacity. Infact less could have the effect of slowing them down and having to make the rounds hit where they need to
