I just got a few of the old style flat steel fur stretchers. Some are skunk size, some are muskrat size. I just got them and didnt clean them to look for a name. What companies made them?

I think Herters made a few wire stretchers.

These are flat inch or so steel, hinged at the top, adjustable with barbs on the sides to keep hide from slipping (bet that tore some pelts). I havent cleaned them yet to see a name. I know Newhouse made flat steel stretchers, Im looking for other names to try to refence.

Newhouse (Oneida Community / Animal Trap Company} did not make or sell flat metal stretchers, the Newhouse stretchers were round wire. I am not sure who made the flat ones, but they were advertised and sold by a lot of different trapping supply companies in the teens and 1920s. Most are not marked but some are. (Abraham, F.C. Taylor, Funsten, E.W. Biggs)

Seems like Abingdon stretchers are the most common I've seen in this neck of the woods. Seen some with no markings also.
This one has only "ST LOUIS MO.USA PATENTED".... Gotta look real close to find it though...

Abingdon is the most common. I have some Abingdon that are marked, I also have some stretchers that are just marked Patented, some marked Patented with a date. I also have one marked Funsten & Sons, and I think I have one marked F. C. Taylor but would have to check for sure when I am home.

Thanks for the info. I didnt know Newhouse made only rod stretchers. Mine look quite like Diggerdales. I havent looked at them yet for a stamp.

I think this one might be a Hill Bros. Lever stretcher. [Linked Image]
Then this thing kinda matches the one in the picture?
