Grade school we played dodge ball. Had monkey bars and teeter totters, tether ball and 4square. Played stretch and mumbly peg with our pocket knives. Never missed recess cause of cold weather.
kieth we called it kill the man with the ball That reminded me, in probably eighth grade, we were told we could not call the game "smear the queer" anymore. I don't think any of us understood why. I definitely didn't. We started calling it "kill the man". We had a frequent substitute teacher whose last name was Faggott. None of us ever thought anything of it. Homosexuality wasn't promoted here back then. I don't think I ever knew about homosexuality until I heard about the Aids scare on the news in the late eighties. I didn't know any LGBTQs or at least anyone who was open about it. When I look back on it, there was one kid in my grade school who was probably gay, but we didn't know it. We just thought he was weird and effeminate. I got my first kisses in 5th grade, from 2 girls a year older than me. I felt my first breasts in the library in 7th grade. Our teacher caught us and just lightly admonished us. They probably would expel boys for that now or label them as predators. In 8th grade, I was, in my opinion at the time, the coolest kid at Kings Island with a pretty girl on each arm at Kings Island, who were both my romantic girlfriends. Times have really changed. Keith

Then in Freshman year of high school 1970...
A sophomore I knew....flushed an M-80 down the toilet in Chapel study..
Needless to say ....he got a week detention and I can't remember if any money was involved.
But what a noise !

Having firearms in my vehicle and nobody cared My school cared. If you got a new gun you were fully expected to get there early enough to park between the school and the cafeteria so that all the boys AND men teachers could take it out and look at it after eating.
I somehow managed to get into the principal's office about once a year but it usually had to do with a harmless little can of chew or someone who deserved it betting a fat lip.

Looking back I am purdy sure the entire staff took it easy on me because they knew if they had hay needing to get to the barn before a big rain, a wild cow they couldn't catch, or a wife stuck in a snow drift that I was the first call they would make.

1980’s Catholic School girls in short uniform jumpers. I graduated with nearly 700 kids so 9th to 12th grade we had nearly 3000 students. Attended Penn State, had my 870 pump, .22 bolt and bow in my dorm room. Never an issue. Walked all around campus with gun in case to the student parking lot where my jeep CJ-5 was parked. PSU so woke now; it would not recommend anyone to go. Don’t like James Franklin either, seems like he won’t draft white kids…..
