Ever do things in School in the old days that would get you in deep trouble now a days?? I remember two things. 1) i remember sneaking REAL fireworks to school and letting them off in the hall during class. 2) I remember one kid who would take any dare. So in Math class one day we dared him to eat 50 packets of Butter. He took us up on it and the MATH TEACHER GOT US THE PACKETS!!! His brother told us he was on the pot most of the night and their mother almost took him to the emergency room till she got the whole story. Now a days you can get in trouble for this. Times have changed.

Once we had our cubscout knife safety badge, in around second grade, we were allowed to carry pocket knives to school. We used to wittle spears on the playground at recess and lunch.

I made a recurve bow and a skinning knife. Started carrying a pocket knife in 2nd grade and had one every day. Guns in a pickup window rack. Had a smoking area. We had to smoke outside but the teachers smoked in the teachers lounge.

A big change is discipline. Students didnt talk in class or sass teachers. I think the world would have ended if we cussed one or refused to do something. We were expected to learn reading writing and math. U.S. history and civics. The changes I see are not for the better.

Grade school we played dodge ball. Had monkey bars and teeter totters, tether ball and 4square. Played stretch and mumbly peg with our pocket knives. Never missed recess cause of cold weather.

kieth we called it kill the man with the ball

I think we gave our teachers respect and mostly got it in return.

I needed to machine a part for my rifle and the shop teacher helped me get it right. It was a trigger mechanism. He even helped me tear the action down. Brought it all in a little cooler. The action that is. Teachers were more strict in the good ways and not liberal. Heck I baled hay on my science teachers family farm. He used to remind me that I could get into twice the trouble since he was my teacher as well. BUT he had the BEST fishing ponds in the county.

Years ago there was a smokers ramp outside. Teachers and students (high school) could smoke. Together even.

We would take our guns to school and keep them in the boiler room where the janitor had his office. After school we would hunt on the way home (approx 3 miles). At lunch time in the fall, we would pick mushrooms for our teacher. I hated class so I would have eraser cleaning duty, flag am/pm, audio-visual person and develop film.

My youngest nephew started doing archery at around 9 years old at his school. He is allowed to bring his bows and arrows to school. He goes to a private, Catholic school. He is 11 now and made his schools competitive team. He's the youngest shooter on the team and ranked second.

We used to fight a lot in grade 2 and 3 and get the strap all the time.
