MJM.... you could make an insulated box to put them in a warm area, and run a plastic pipe to it from a basement window, and shove a rag in it or some other damper to control letting cooler air into it.

One time I took a giant Hubbard, opened it like giant jack-o-lantern, cleaned it out, put a pork roast in there with carrots and stuff. Put lid on and roasted it in the oven.

Sounds like a good idea. But it wasn't anything special.

Ruffed grouse breast in a Acorn squash slow baked is one squash that can not be beat.

lots of mash to make some soup now
