I too have become a Jamesons lure believer. His "Shooter" has become my go to coyote dirthole set lure and Three Rivers my Non castor beaver lure (along with Dobbins Woodchipper).

I wish I would have started using his lures long ago when I was more motivated and trapped more.

Was setting a set of pastures in the sand hills 17 miles long and 3 miles wide 20 or so years ago. Was setting a different area earlier so started early afternoon. Got dark and had to quit. Went back to the county rd the same as went in. First set I made had a coyote in it. Dobbins had just came out with a new lure. I am not sure which one it was but it worked.

I like to test lures side by side on my red fox line. I always make at least two dirt-hole sets at each location. Historically hot locations get three and sometimes four sets within 10-15 feet.

It's an ideal set up to test different lures side by side. I use and test Hawbaker's, Carmen's, Caven's, Dobbins, Lenon's, Epler's, June's and many others.

For many years Hawbaker's Red Fox land Lure 100 was my top performer. But the formulation changed when the brand was sold a number of years ago and it no longer performs like the old stuff.

More recently one of Dobbin's lures have been outperforming others in side by side testing; Mississippi Special.

Dobbins DigR and Triple Gland Plus are top performers also.

Eh...wot?

I didn't have enough sets out this year to draw any conclusions but I did get to try out the Night Train I bought a couple of years ago. I caught grey fox and coyote with it. Conditions weren't the best. Full moon and warm so I was pretty happy with it.

Mr Jameson's Prairie King and Renno's Stealth paw. Definitely use both again, along with Hoosier's mighty dog, and Carmen's vent scent. I've always been a firm believer in Carmen's circle maker and canine call.

I am very new to the game and tried a lot of different baits and lures from several different manufacturers. The pic will give you an idea of what was in my bag at end of the season. Some I used (multiple containers) some I didn’t. My most productive bait was Cavens Hiawatha Valley followed by Dunlap Time of Death mouse bait. Third for me was Mark Junes Widowmaker and then Night Owl Ground Mouse (these two jars came to me leaking so had to transfer to empty Hiawatha jars so a little concerned they might not keep until next year as they are basically dry now but will see). The Down South trapping Lip Licker I tried but never really gave them much of a chance as I pulled the line after only a couple days.

As far as lures go, Caven’s Gusto helped catch the most coyotes, but I used it the longest so not apples to apples comparison. Dunlap Hostile was effective early but I stopped using it and have no good reason why. Craven Violator 7 also a good performer but only used it very late in the season. Lucero Coyotero accounted for several in limited usage late as I only had it for a couple of weeks before I shutdown but seemed to throw the local coyotes a curve.

I wasn’t able to try any of the Derricks lures I had or Night Owl. Very limited use of the Down South Crows Blood so will not comment on it yet.

Only real disappointment so far was the (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) Fire from Dunlap, was not very loud for a long distance call. I will try and inject some essence next year to make it usable.
