Don't be afraid of using extensions and let them wrap up. I will often use a weak anchor with an 8 foot extension when conditions warrant. I love snares when beaver get trap shy.

I snare most of my beaver under ice and I don't want a really fast snare. I do like a round loop, but I set with my lock at almost 3 o'clock. I have a lot of rats and I think they knock my snares down. I may miss some small beaver, but I catch a lot of beaver this way and a better percentage of big ones than I do with conibears.

Yeah I’ve had 330 refusals but they never seem to wise up to snares. Love snaring shy beaver.
Also if a 330 goes off and misses them, that’s a big sudden commotion snap in their face they won’t forget. Snares don’t have that issue. A knocked down snare is simply reset and you catch them the next visit.
