Never easy. You did great. Now keep his memory alive by doing something to honor him.

Sorry for your loss. I've been through it too many times.
Personally, I'd prefer to remember loved ones the way they were and not see them on their death beds. We don't do it for ourselves though, at least I don't. We do it to comfort the person dying.
Went through it with a beloved aunt two months ago. The way her face lit up when I walked into her hospice room was worth it. I stayed for several hours. She was in rough shape, in and out of lucidity. When I left I hugged and kissed her, told her I loved her. She must have realized I was saying a final goodbye. She suddenly became very lucid and said, "I'm gonna get better." I really didn't know what to say. She died three days later.
Eh...wot?

So Sorry for you and your friend. When my Uncle was dealt with Terminal Cancer they were going to put him in a Hospice House but my wife and I would not allow it. We had him brought into the house and made his final days as comfortable as possible. It is hard and his wife did the right thing. So did you.!!!! My Uncle was a Vietnam combat veteran and no way was I letting him pass among Strangers. I had my two Brothers and my wife and a Grand daughter all around him till the end.
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

You did good,, just being there shows that you care. We often question sometimes why GOD allows such a horrible disease like this to happen… I have many times… but, we don’t know the mind of GOD,,, even as crappy as it is,, there’s a reason.. And someday, it will be revealed why.

That was a fine thing that you did. Some folks wouldn't be able to do what you did. You did your friend a kind favor. I'm sure he appreciated it.

Lost a Brother in law and a niece to that nasty stuff. No matter how much you think you are ready it still finds a way to tell you that you are not. Niece had a baby 6 months after was discovered but was too late, I hope they are both with God and pain free now. Prayers for you and yours as well.

Went to see my brother before they pulled the plug. Heart surgery went perfect, but the nurse stuck a feeding tube into the lung afterwards so went without O2 for a bit. Completely brain dead. His eyes were half open and and were steely grey. He was just a shell at that point. It was an open wound for me but over time it scabs over…..but it’ll leave a scare on you that’ll never go away. Good on you for talking and getting a reaction…. God bless.
