Had the right hip replaced Sept. 2022 when I was 68 - hip cup and ball so bad it was clipped and had floating pieces that would catch - hobbled in the hospital one day AM, had a replacement that afternoon, up walking with a nurse and walker that night, went home next day leaving the hospital in the mandatory wheelchair fashion - got home started using wheeler for a few days and then a cane mostly for stability outdoors. That November I was snaring coyotes and hard water fishing in December. The best thing I even did. You will do fine!

My dad has had both of his hips replaced. It's been 6 or 7 years now. He had no issues. He cuts wood, coon hunts, deer hunts and coyote hunts. He's 81 now. I'm sure you'll do fine

Broke mine a year ago on valentines day, Screws and rods were used to put my hip back together--that went sideways when my old hip couldn't handle that procedure,
A month or so later ,I got my new hip. I now have a limp and may times it feels like I have a block of would in there, I have some pain at times, but nothing like after the first attempt to save my original hip.
Spring beaver season will see me sitting on the sidelines. I am worried about my balance and also being able to pull myself out of the mud if I get stuck.
Good luck,
Tom

my dad , his brother my grandma on my moms side and my dads aunt had all had hips done.

I think it might actually be better than knees

dad and uncle were back up and better than before in not very long at all maybe 2 months
mom had swelling and soreness of the knees for more like
my dad an uncle were early 60s so about 5 and 8 years ago

my great aunt was about 23 years ago so late 60s

mom was about 63 when she had the knees done

grandma was about 20 years ago so 70

follow all the physical therapy and life gets back to normal fairly soon from the ones I have seen.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I had mine done a few years ago. Had surgery at 6:30 am, walking by 10:30 and leaving for home at 3. Had a 3 hour ride home on top of it. Was mowing the yard on a zero turn after 4 days.

Walking was the only therapy my surgeon had me do. OrthoNebraska in Omaha is where I went.

I had both done, one in 2008, other in 2012. Quick recovery. Once you get the staples out, you’ll feel a lot better.

First 10 days suck. I was hobbling around killing hogs and coyotes on day 22. 6 months later and my muscles are still building up strength. Doc said “full recovery” takes 12-18 months. There’s still a little “discomfort” but it’s not pain and it’s not the hip, just the muscles.

Friend in Iowa that cash rents farmland from us just had his second one done. Having gone through the process previously he was looking forward to the relief the new hip provided.

He was released from the hospital the same day and felt well enough to stop for supper .

You should do fine. It is the thought of and the whole process that is over whelming. I have a friend that had one done at 62 and how he just had one done a month ago. Never lost a step does what he has always done.

Good Luck!!

Buddy’s wife in MO had hers done it bothered her so she went to a chiropractor thinking it was back pain. The joker pulled on her leg and broke her pelvis it turned out the joint was infected from the surgery but showed little signs of that. They had to remove the joint to deal with in infection, she got around for a couple months without the joint. She’s getting her other hip done next week.

Had bilateral hip replacements 6 years ago, I was back on the boat working in 6 weeks, First 2 weeks are challenging but gets better fast, hips way easier than knees, had bilateral knees done a year ago.
one hip is easy, barring complications. My best advice is find the best replacement surgeon you can find, and start doing all the exercises they tell you BEFORE the surgery, and do the PT, do that along with walking. You should be driving again in a month. good luck
