Running low on 330’s with little cover to hide them and making a late season push for some otter. What land/crossover type snares do yall recommend for otter? May make a few dirt holes also. But just curious of otter specific set up. Thanks.

Dry land is a bad place to snare otters, it will damage the fur to some extent, and probably break your snares. snares on a pole across a small waterway, under ice is a better choice.

Seeing how they tear things up when caught in water with a 330 behind the head, I would think an otter snared on dry land would cause fur damage if it didn't get away.

I'd be curious to know what percentage are graded as damaged.

Dont Rember Less than half tho.

There is a way you can rub out the snare burn on the leather.
Most of my snared otters snare burn .Look no more than a Body grip mark. If any at all.

The first swivel needs to be at the open loop

I've snared a few beaver where I couldn't drown them. So I set up the location with a kill pole. The few beaver I caught where wrapped up tight to the pole still alive but not moving. I didn't witness any fur damage. Would a kill pole work for otter In a non drowning situation.

All the otters I ever snared twisted around and broke the snares and got away. These were triple swiveled but with brushy areas swivels don't work well.

Thanks for the info. IF I wind up doing this, it’s because they are crossing a grassy patch only with no cover to make a 330 a little bit hidden. Probably do a few snares on drowning rods and some dirt holes also.
