The book I sent was book rate is what I was told for $4.00 to go 15 miles and take 4 days to get there.

If I wanted to send my next door neighbor a letter on a Monday, it would leave my house and go to the Sylvester PO, from their it would travel to Albany Ga, from there it would travel to Jacksonville Fl, then back to Albany Ga, then back to Sylvester, to be delivered to my neighbor on Thursday or Friday.

***Disclaimer: My mail lady would’ve just stuck in my neighbors mailbox and probably chew me out for being stupid!!***

The USPS delivers packages from China and other countries, at those countries purported cost in those countries. Subsidizing other countries costs the Post Office billions in lost revenue and makes it easy for foreign businesses to sell cheaper here than American ones. It should be outlawed.

USPS has outlived its usefulness. Let anyone and everyone deliver any and all mail and let the consumers decide who wins.
I generally can't complain too much about my local USPS deliveries. I have a long driveway and they will come down the drive with a package that does not fit into the mailbox.
Only complaints I have is once they didn't do this they just tossed the box into the ditch by the mailbox. That and the hours at the post office. Ours shuts down for an hour in the middle of the day. The hours on the website are not the same as what they actually are.
Nothing PO's me more than driving to the po and having it closed in the middle of the day during "normal' working hours.

I think one of the bigger issue stems from small rural to big city post offices.

Strange things do happen, but I have to say that out of thousands of usps packages I can count on one hand the problems.
I do think more issues happen with small items that can get stuck in a conveyor belt.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I use USPS for my business unless directed to use something else by the customer, unfortunately Priority mail is any thing but Priority any more, costs more than just regular drop off, but moves the same time schedule or less now after 15 years of using it and cost moved up three times now !!

It's almost quicker to just use the regular mail and pay a dollar for tracking !!

Oh and don't forget about forever stamps moving up every year, LOL

I agree - none of them are stellar. I have some horror stories with all of them

I had 925 jumbo, coturnix quail eggs shipped to me last week from the same place in Pennsylvania, in 2 boxes, by Priority Mail. The boxes traveled together until they reached the Columbus, Ohio distribution center. One box, of 450 eggs was delivered last Thursday. The other box of 475 eggs was delivered this Tuesday.

I'm getting 5000 eggs shipped in next week. I hope they all arrive quickly, without damage and on time.

The nearest town to me is seven miles away. Less than a thousand people but they have their own Post Office. They were my PO for decades. Some great, long-time employees working there. One woman in particular is a great community asset. she knows everyone and all the goings on.

I caught a non-target canine two seasons ago and took it home with me. I told the landowner who told the PO lady who found the owners almost immediately. It had come from over five miles away. She called me to let me know, I took it to her after hours at the PO and she took it back to the owners.

The carrier was great too. She'd drop stuff on the porch that was too big for the box. She'd take letters I forgot to stamp and leave me a note saying I owed her fifty cents or whatever it was at the time.

For reasons known only to the USPS, a few years ago they started having my mail delivered out of a PO in a larger town another five miles away. The PO employees are incompetent and rude and the various carriers they employ suck, missing mail, other people's mail, etc.

I still do all my business out of my old PO and only go to the new one when I have to pick up a registered letter or something like that.

Wish they never would have switched me.

Eh...wot?

Newark, Ohio 83 years
A few years ago when I lived in Florida, my dad was living and living in Newark, Ohio which is 30 miles east of Columbus. He called and said he was sending me a check for some equipment I was wanting for my business and he was late getting it mailed. So, he sent it over-night. He also said it was guaranteed to be delivered over-night.

I ask him what the guarantee penalty was if It didn't get here in that time frame, He said, since I had to sign for the letter for me to send him the receipt and he would get his money back.

Well, it did not get here the next day, but the following day. So, as I was instructed by him, I sent the receipt to him and he got his money back.

A couple of days later, I ran into the Assistant Postmaster in Palatka, Florida, ten miles away from me, and ask her about the deal. All of my regular mail, I thought came from there. She told me that is didn't, it came from Daytona, 75 miles away. The road east of me, closest to Palatka, was the dividing line... so everything that came into the Palatka office for me was forwarded to Daytona.

She advised to have my dad send everything of any impertinence to send over-night and he would always get his money back. She said they had been arguing this point to the P.O.H.Q. for years, but they wouldn't do anything about it.

The funny thing is after my street to the south was a river which would have been a much better cut off area.

So, he did that is the future.

Yesterday I found my new golf clubs and bag in the front seat of my pickup. I figured the UPS guy just thought it was easier to drop them off here at work, instead of taking them to my house. When I got home, there on the porch was another UPS package for my wife. He had to go there anyhow, yet still left my stuff where only I could find it. It's rare to find good people like that anymore!!

a rare find indeeed
maybe he was worried your clubs were more likely to get stolen

I happen to have a good postman talked with him yesterday he likes my dogs.

I had a great UPS man but he must have retired
he used to drop a lot of our stuff off at he co-op when my wife worked there it was nice

both the mailman and the ups man liked stopping by the co-op as there was a bathroom and place to fill up water no store just a co-op office with pull through parking right outside the door.

I do everything through UPS or FedEx if at all possible. It might cost a little more sometimes, but it's worth not having to deal with the hassle of USPS.

Well good for you......I'm glad you got that off your chest on the quarterly bash the USPS thread! Why not just use the other shipping companies.....or do you feel better? Along with everyone else on the quarterly bash the USPS thread. Just stop using them.....see how easy that is? There....until the next quarter....carry on! Lololololol now...wasn't there just a bash UPS thread on here a little while back? And FedEx ? Lololol
