earth anchors just don’t seem to do it for me, when i put them in and pull them tight a bit of the cable always comes up no matter how deep i make it go down, they are also alot harder to put in than some rebar and fiddling with the driver and getting it pulled out isn’t worth it. the ones with chains are no better than the rebar when it comes to weight. i know theres alot of earth anchor fans out here but i just don’t see the benifit other than weight reduction traveling on foot. i prefer a cross staked rebar. any one else have opinions on this?

In this rocky soil it can be a fight just getting the rebar in. I've gotten so lazy I mostly just prehook my drags and don't use stakes as much.

I prefer rebar but corrected the trouble your having by adding 1/8"cable to the wolf fang then adding about six inches of chain to the cable. Still I don't use them till I run out of rebar.

Same here I add chain to the cable and some I have left in for years and just use a quick link to reattach a trap. I some of the country I trap there is not much to hook up a drag a lot of grass lands and good way to spend to much time following drags.

I let the critter set them to avoid the extra cable issue when setting.

I never bothered pulling them tight. Why they will get pulled when a catch is made.

I went to them when I got back into trapping after years away because they were cheaper than rebar. Rebar is easier to remove for sure.

Bad back here cutting the cable is easier for me it’s worth the cost.

I have a 6' steel bar just take a wrap around it a bout 2 to 3 feet from the end that's on the ground and lift up. Even then at times in thick clay and rocks it takes some force. Had to get my 13 year olds help once this year to lift the bar. Also had some real difficulty driving when I hit some rock. Most of the time it's easy and not bad and they also discourage theft. But I plan on making some rebar stakes probably 18" for the boys coon traps. He has been wiring them off and I prefer them to be staked.

I do not want to go back to Rebar stakes.
For me it goes like this,
1, Wolf fangs 1/8 cable/chain.
2, Super stakes with chain.
3, 10' cable extensions.
4, Long snares, tie off to something solid.
5, Drag's.
6, Stakes.
Use the best and easiest anchor for the location and animal?

I ditched my earth anchors (wolf fangs) and went back to all rebar for land sets too. I (well, my boy) use cheap conduit cable stakes for water sets though. Good to have options.

Y'all must have some good ground, I always preset them and numerous times pounding one in beside a rock the ferrules got sheared off and pulls right out.

For us that add a few links of chain to the cable, it also gets us another swivel to help out when you make a catch.

I went back to cross stake rebar but still have a few cables as an option if the situation fits.

I've had lots of trouble with them, bending, and handle on driver breaking off

I quit carrying rebar a long time ago and run only cable anchors on my coyote, cat, and coon line. I have to walk in to most of my locations. Carrying double rebar for double cross staking plus traps and other stuff was too much for me to keep going, I’m no spring chicken.
Rebar is easier to take out of rock solid frozen January ground here, but cable is oh so much light to carry pre-attached to traps and if I can’t get it out of ground I just cut it and go.
I use mostly berk heavy duties now too. They are cheap and hold everything I catch no problem.
Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
