Anyone ever do it? I hear paint does not last long, wondering if there is particular paint that sticks or a treatment that makes paint stick?
Any help appreciated - I am afraid the white may be a problem since I deal with educated beavers A LOT!

I use fiberglass treestakes that are grey and have a veil wrapping. Never felt that I had an issue with avoidance but I tend to try to get the whole rod under water.

As for sticking your going to need something that can flex like latex and latex is notorious for not gripping anything. Basically a layer of rubber over what it is applied to. I have used epoxy based like Gripper paint on pvc but even it is sketchy on adhesion even with scuffing the pvc with sandpaper.

I had not thought about the flex.
Now I am wondering about some kind of stain. Maybe bury them in black muck a few months?
Something about bright white just does not appeal to me. I often conceal everything I use for a setup, hiding from beaver or people or both.

You may want to try wooden dowels or rods. This summer hit the flea markets & garage sales. You can find them cheap there instead of retail.

They camouflage well being real wood

TILL THAT DAY.....

They use lacquer on fishing rods.

This may not work , even if the muck turns them very dark.
A lot of commercial products that are white in color also have what is known as an optical britener. In other words a UV dye. To our eyes it makes whites look whiter. Check with a UV light to see if they floresce or glow. Some animals can see UV better than humans. You might have get a paint/coating to cover it.

I used them all this year and didn't have any problems. Maybe my beavers are color blind and can't see white. They didn't seem to care.

Ive been wanting to try some fiberglass and proably will this year. I dont want white though, two much eye appeal for folks who like to steal bank poles and traps on public land. I dug around and found a company that has black fiberglass rods though they are a bit higher. I dont paint my water traps flat black anymore because of that. I use something like OD green now

Could you wrap rods with electrical tape?

As long as you sand then with some 220 taking off the sheen paint should bond.

I don’t see the white causing refusals myself. My body grip supports are bright red as are all my drowning locks. Never been an issue !

I painted mine with camouflage krylon spray paint. I use them for ditty poles and wanted to cut down on thieves. The paint works great for this.
