It's the 6 but that doesn't matter because I'm having a V8 put in during the restoration

Fellas I know I'm going to catch heck all the way through the process on this but I'm new to the old car game its a learning curve, this seems to be just at the lower cost didn't want to bite off more than I could chew on the first one

I always tell.people ...its cheaper to buy what you want..instead of making what you want.

Resale value will be toast...Buyer will run the Vin ...and see that it's an original 6 cyl car..

Better off enjoying it as is...and have some fun

Then when the time is right ...sell it ..and get what you need

Car will be in restoration Jail...and you'll miss at least 2 summers of cruising.

See this every day...just trying to help...

I bought this 1979 Caprice about 10 years ago. It came with a 305 3 speed automatic. Really tall highway gears.

I proceeded to build a 383 (350 stroker) and had a 700R4 trans. built. I picked up an 8.5 rearend and installed 3.73 gears.

Its fun but a plain jane. I might unload it and build something else.

Nessy is correct on all points.

Keep the 6cyl. In it's day (60's-70's) the 6cyl was bashed a lot because so many cars had V-8's
Today , 6 cylinder cars are kinda looked at like it has the 'big' engine compared to a 4cyl. No shame anymore.
I had a '66 stang hardtop with the 289 V8 , the 6cyl is only a bit smaller and provides plenty power to get around.

It's pointless to swap the six for a v8 unless you put one in that leaves an ear to ear grin on your face , and that will cost you 8 to 10 grand ........then there's the tranny upgrade........

And new rear axle , upgraded brakes ( a lot of the early stangs had a single master cylinder ) , beefed up springs and suspension and an entire exhaust system and more.

You sure find the weakest link in any hot rod when you add lots of ponies, boats are no different, you just want torque.

When ya get down to all the things that would go into a build like that , you would almost be lucky to keep it under $20k

Even a mild swap like a stock 289cid 2bbl would cost a couple grand minimum with only about a 30-40bhp gain over the stock 6cyl.

My dream classic car would be a Dodge Stealth RT Turbo.
