Does anyone use the micro locks or the pro locks. If so how do you like them? I have used Thompson locks for all the years I have snared and do like them but been looking to try one of these others.

Not a fan of the micro locks because they don't lock up quite as well.

I'm assuming you're referring to the Dakota line pro locks? I haven't used that brand of lock, I use the bullet lock which is the same thing.

I started using the small black toothed camlocks recently, for wolf,I'm impressed with their performance.I think they are called lightning locks.
As far as snares for fox or cats the regular cam or an adams lock does the job very well.
Only lock I have tried that I do not like is the slim lock.Had a few waterheads with that lock so I wont use it anymore except for under ice beaver snares.

Thanks Boco, you have good luck with the can locks even in bad weather, freezing and thawing. Who do you get this locks from?

Freezing and thawing is not much of an issue here.It happens once or twice maybe in the late fall, but not every year.
Cams are more succeptible to the thaw freeze situation than other locks.
Each and every snare has to be worked manually after a thaw freeze here, even the adams and thompsons.
It is a pain, but good that it is a fairly rare occurrence here.

I pick up my snaring stuff at the trapstore at FHA in North Bay or from a dealer at a convention.

I have tested all kinds of snare locks, springs and cable combinations. Still working on a few?

My favorite dispatch snare lock is the Bridger Sure Hold Cam Lock W / Teeth.

My second choice would be the Amberg snare lock.

I like the mini cam locks. I could get by with the micro locks, but the low pro locks were awful. They looked good but lock up was bad and lots of twisted up snare escapes. Definitely pick the micro if those are your only two choices. The micro won’t lock after the first catch n my experience so don’t plan to reuse the locks on new snares.

Mark M. You must be trapping in a state other than Washington to be using snares?

I have used 1/19 5/64 cable with 3/32 micro locks on my 6ft coyote snares with a 6ft extension and tied high with great success. Usually DOA with little site disturbance.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

we use to have a stupid snare law that said something like "must be a relaxing lock" like when you tighten it up it has to fall open again ... crazy Happily our state org got it changed and we can use whatever we want now as far as locks

Deep in the heart of Appalachia....

I like the Amberg snare lock too but impressed with the death blow lock. Death blow lock looks just like the Bridger Sure Hold Cam Lock W / Teeth. I'm sure it is but just a different maker.

I have tried a lot of different locks over the years along with a lot of different cable and kill spring combinations. My country is pretty open with the sage being around 24 to 30 inches high. The absolute best set up I have found is the mini death blow cam lock on a snare built on 12 feet of 1x19 1/16 cable with the conibear type kill spring.. Coyotes pull the support color off and have plenty of slack to hit the end of the snare at high speed. I find lots of them piled up dead with slack in the cable. I had some success with the micro locks if your cuth the fifty LB kill spring in half and add it below the lock. Most of the other combo I have tried where a live catch snare. Now I have around a 95% kill rate with little or no entangelment.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.
