What's collecting dust in the Baahn ?

Got a 40 chevy PU, that is widened six and a half inches and on a Z’ed tonner frame. Was gonna be my welding truck, but wasn’t done in time for when needed!
32 chevy sedan, built the frame and suspension, wood in car taken out and rebuilt with steel. Angle whacked top, zz3 crate engine, AC, custom dash, about 75% done and in primer.
60 chevy SW that I used to race. 2 dr, that I’ve only seen about ten more of in my life. Owned it since before I went to Nam. Held both ends of the AHRA records in R/stock formula 3. I want to pro street it for a driver. Have a brand new 454 crate motor with a Street and Performance fuel injected tunnel ram for it.

Got my shop finished here where I live, but then closed my welding shop in Manhattan, after 45 years. Equipment had to go somewhere, so what I couldn’t sell, got moved into my new shop.now I have no room for my projects, and they are 45 miles away! It drives me nuts!

That 60 Chevy Long roof sounds way cool.

Nessy, that ol 60 would get some serious air on a burnout. Drug the back bumper a few times! I’ll get a pic of my projects when I go down this week. Been promising them for too long.
It was a four speed car, and to launch it, took a special technique. Too much typing to explain it here! Took a five bulb tree to make it happen. When the tracks all switched to the three bulb tree, that was when I hung it up!

Ha ha, it was always pretty popular! Especially when it stood on it’s bumper. Yes, I changed it over to a one piece driveline. The old car had to weigh in at 3960#, min weight, and the engine was a sixty over 283, or 292 CI. Run a 5:86 gear in the rear end, with 32 in tall M&H slicks, with a Brazwell 2 barrel carb. Had a forty pound flywheel, with a home made 27 pound harmonic balancer, and it took a couple of bulbs on the tree just to get the engine wound up! A 2:64 low Borg Warner four speed, that had been slick shifted. Car would run 13: oo’s at 107 MPH. Put a four barrel holley on it once, and it ran 12:62!

Forgot to answer about the completeness of it. Yes, been collecting many things that had gotten discarded when I started racing it. Back floorpans have rotted away, and a little rust in the quarters, behind the rear tires.

I wish old cars were more affordable.

I'm looking for a 1965 Buick Riviera. '63 through '65 where very similar to each other, but the stacked hide-away headlights on the '65 is what its all about for me.

When I dragged my 57 Chevy Station Wagon...I'd always get paired up with a 55 Chevy 265...6:13 gear...and kick my butt for 1350 feet...but I'd catch him.

I also had a 454 dual quad...junk yard motor and 4:56 ...daily drivah.

Modern stuff is alot different than "back in the day" Nessy.

The heads have come along ways, even on production vehicles, and after market blocks have a larger bore spacing which allows bigger bores.

In the dirt circle track racing I've done until recently, an engine in the 358c.i. limit class needs to be putting out 6-700 hp, the lower number with stock production cast heads and the latter with aftermarket heads. This is also with a 11:1 compression ratio.

In the open classes, you need to be well over 800, I'm hearing getting near 900hp. These engines are over 400c.i. and fully ported race heads.

How fast you wanna go???? Depends on how much money ya got! You're looking at 60k for a decent dirt motor.



I forgot to mention, they're also aluminum blocks and don't weight much over 300lbs.

Had a friend that should have been a mathematician. He came by the shop one day, and had a formula for figuring horsepower of the engine by what the ET was, speed, rear end ratio, sizeof tires, etc, etc! I was amazed, he came up with my little 292 making 580 HP. I ask him how accurate that could possibly be, he said just about dead on with the right info! Drag racing has changed so much that I’m not interested in it anymore. It has become a spectator sport for me now!

Does that have a 289 in it?
