No,but chevy evidently decided to use combustion chamber for displacement, because if you use bore and stroke,a 396 is only about a 394 something.

Yep, and a 350 is a 349 and a 327 is actually a 325.

Trust me on this.....
Bore x stroke = cubic inches.
The only thing combustion chamber cc's change is the compression ratio. Full stop.

I didn't have the Impala long, wrapped it around a telephone pole within 2 months. That's when I learned how to mechanic! lo!

I bought a '66 that didn't have a drive train and I took it all out of the '67 and put it in the 66.

Put a rod out the side soon after, bought a Chevy pickup after that and put another rod out thru the side. Bought an AAR Cuda next and it took the punishment so that's (Mopars) all I owned after that!

I'm not disagreeing with you about cubic inches,i'm saying they call them whatever they feel like.

That they do,

A 360 Mopar is actually 358. they all fudge up.

Just saying that smaller combustion chambers don't change the cubes, only the compression ratio.

Isn't the 302 camaro a 327 with a different stroke? Had to get to 302 for some race rule.

I'd have to look, but I think the stroke is the same, smaller bore on 302?

283 bore runs in my mind. I'll look!

You're right, both have 4" bore, but the 302 is a 283 stroke.3".

I knew they had something in common with a 283, just had the wrong part, lol.

Here's my formula for figuring cubic inches....

Bore divided x 2 = X
X x X = Z
Z x 3.14 = Q
Q x number of cylinders = Y
Y x stroke = cubic inchex.

They had to reduce displacement to meet Trans Am racing rules.

265 had a 3.75 bore X a 3.750 stroke
283 had a 3.875 bore X a 3.75 stroke.
302 had a 4.00 bore X a 3.75 stroke.
327 had a 4 in bore X a 4 in stroke
And I can’t remember the 350….was a little later in life, but worked on a bunch of them!
Now on the other end of the cubes; after the 454 came the 502, then all kinds of stroke and bores all the way up to the monster crate engines. 584 and I think one is available at six hundred something! Been away from it too long on the modern end!

283 3.875x3.00
302 4.00x3.00
327 4.00x3.25
350 4.00x3.48
