Doing some nest raider trapping on my hunting lease and mainly using dog proofs but decided to put some 1.5s at the set locations. It almost doubled my catch. Of course the wild river pans and pit dogs don’t hurt either

Not surprised. Coons will sometimes ignore dogproofs, but well placed blind sets will get those that walk by.

If legal snares are just death on raccoons

Can't use snares here in WI, but once I figured out 160 trail sets, it was game on.

Very true! You and I probably know multiple guys here in Iowa who have snared them by the truckload.

I once ran two dozen 220 and 160 boxes with DP's set with in five to six feet of each other. The traps were out two months. Only once did I have a coon in a DP. Told me a lot about DP's . I had dry cat food with a shot of fish oil shell fish in both.

If you have coon trails. Here you find very few coon trails unless you are very close to a denning site.

Don't overlook some well placed #11's in those trail sets. Those are very effective too.

If you want to catch coons, just make a great coyote set.

Trapping urban backyards I don't get to use alot of footholds for coon but side by side with cages they catch coon that won't touch a dp and give a cage a wary eye.

If you have good trails footholds will outperform every other style of trap out there.

Agreed. It works best as a trailing scent.Squirt a line of it leading up to your set.Not on it.

I've had good luck with a 1.5 CS on a drowning cable and pocket sets.

Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.

Pocket sets will take a lot of coons! I don't use many drowners, but I make a lot of pocket sets.

Envy you guys with actual “trails” that just doesn’t happen down here. The only place I ever seen it was on a local WMA. Down here you either set near an active feeder or along a creek and hope and pray. Or just make you best coyote set and a coon or possum will find it first!
