I truly doubt you know what all was in that law.

Exactly.

They ignore the hundreds of positive things the NRA has done over the decades, some of which were very significant in advancing gun rights in the US.

But they'll jump on every thread where the NRA is mentioned and spew their negative crap for the thousandth time.

Becuer there was not a single thing that was worth that trade off . There is not a thing to say more about it. But you like training off rights on things you don't like or care about to think you are gaining in areas you approve.
Go back further how about 68 or 34 NRA support there also not just in 86. O look at the we traded or compromise in 86 so it's ok. Ya genius if they hadd not supported the 68 and 34 the stuff that got passed after would not likely have and would not have been on the book to trade off our right to buy new machine guns.

One compromise leads to more compromise. You loose more each time. Rights are not there to be traded off a piece at a time.

I guess you just have to be spoon feed like most people you can't figure it out on your own

Doesn't mean the NRA supported the last minute amendment.

You must be young if you think we have it worse now than in the 60's-70's as far as buying guns and ammo.

I remember signing to buy .22 shells..

3 day wait on guns.

I think you figured out the problem. The NRA changed in the 80's

"A description of the background and development of the NRA notes NRA support for moderate measures of gun control in the 1950's and the 1960's; however, in the 1970's, the NRA began to notice that legislation which it had earlier supported had failed to curb crime or impair criminal access to firearms, while it was adversely affecting the firearms freedoms of the law-abiding citizen. In 1977, after a purge of the leadership by the life members, the NRA Board of Directors officially agreed to oppose increasingly restrictive gun legislation. The NRA established a lobbying arm in 1975, with the formation, at the behest of the membership, of the Institute for Legislative Action, followed in 1976 by the formation of a political action committee, the NRA Political Victory Fund."

Gun owners in the US are a lot better off now than we were fifty years ago thanks primarily to the NRA.

Probably depends on your state on the rules you had to follow. You must be old if you think 43 is young. It's more middle age. But of course your older you think the NRA is pro gun and trading off rights is a good thing.

But whatever the bad things you old farts remember I would not have been on the books if the people before you and the big bad NRA didn't support the anti gun legislation passed prior . You know the guys you would think we're old or think you were young way back when you were 40.

They support it period. All of it it's on record they support gun control they are not a no compromise from my cold dead hands organisation never have been never will be. They have some good training programs and education. But will gladly sell anything out if they think it not popular or profitable. If all the gun laws could be repealed today they wouldn't support it because that their cash cow. Many NFA guys wouldn't either because they like the restrictions on things they don't want or see the need for.

They wouldn't have been in the shape they were 50 years ago if not for the NRA support for gun control in 34 and 68 but I guess you can only look in your life time.

I dont know where you lived hippie but when I was about 11 I bought a money order at the post office. Mailed it to Sears and about 3 weeks later the postman brought me my new shotgun.

Today you have to go through a dealer. Pay him a fee. Have a form put on file. Get a background check. Have another purchase logged into the gun owner registry.

in '68, we were dam lucky that's all we lost.

on the heels of 'two' Presidential assassinations (Bobby WOULD have been President) and the other political assassinations of the time; the ONLY thing that kept firearms legal was the political clout that the NRA wielded.

you weren't even born then...don't tell those of us who WERE alive what it was like. You have NO CLUE!

Ya Danny but we have never had it so good and it's all thanks to the NRA. To heck with mail order from the Sears catalog.

Really reminds me of a battered woman. He only beats her because he loves her and it's all her fault anyway.

Charlton Hesston was on TV telling people the new gun control act was a good idea.

Nobody I knew believed that the two Kennedy's would be alive if that law had been in place.

Reverend King either.

Hesston wasn't head of the NRA during that time...he was an actor.

That’s your hill to die on? The fact that not just anyone can have a gun mailed to them in three days? You must not get out much, in my little village I’m glad the felons & troubled youth can’t order one when they need one for their next stunt I guess…. We don’t all live in Mayberry Opie…sad as that is. Our nations biggest issue that needs fixing isn’t mail order guns but lack of morals being taught by a two parent household. Solve that and a lot of the rest goes away.
