I finally bought a new pellet rifle after years of doing without, I used wolfies post for the pyramyd air discount. Got the Hatsun QR, QE ? 95, 22 cal.

The pellets I got are 14 grain which I gather is standard, but in searching I see there's some "heavy" 22 pellets available. Anyone have experience with the standard and heavier pellets?
Thanks

There's also slugs available. Airgun slugs are more traditional bullet shaped projectiles vs the wasp waisted diablo pellets. They are called slugs because they are heavier.

Just like powder burners rifling and barrel come into play on what shoots best.

If doing control work, I would go with the above mentioned. If shooting inside of buildings get the above in a hollow point.

For inside work how do you guys deal with the risk of over pentration and possible damage to structure.

I've only done a few bird in supermarket type jobs and marking sheetrock or clipping a light fixture has been a concern.

Which leads to a follow up, lead free projectiles where leaving spent projectiles is a thing.

They used to sell a sampler pack of pellets. Had about 10 different types/weights in it. Was great for seeing what your gun preferred without having to buy a whole tin of each.

I shot a lot of raccoons with Beaman Silver Arrow pellets. I don't recall the weight and don't know if they are still available.

Shot angle, is the best way. You need to fit flat, and having the body behind the head is ideal.

I turn the gun down , most times the pellet stays in the bird. I do alot of pigeons in hangar work.

OK, some of the heavy pellets say to use in a "magnum"rifle only....what constitutes a Magnum?
The Hatsun claims 800 fps and 21? foot pounds or whatever it's called, which is fine for what I'm using it for. Just wondering how heavy is too heavy?

It's been a long time since I played with these things so I'm way behind the curve on all the current stuff.

Springers and ram airs don't shoot the slugs well at all. As far as what pellets to go with, airguns are a picky sort. The weight is not as important as the head diameter and some pellets are not consistent in either. The price on the pellets does not equal better shooting as sometimes the cheapos will do just fine. I always start with the cphp pellets and they usually get it done but be aware it is a deeeeeep rabbit hole when it comes to pellets. Don't ask how i know this just that i do, whistle

Its not a kids game now, It's pretty expensive. buying a new gun,$1400, new scope $450, then you need a tank you can fill the pcp guns with looks like another $500. lets try some ammo $15-$20 a tin. cost more than most of my powder burning guns. I have a couple jobs I need to get done, cost is going up. Little lone insurance. You can go cheaper but I hate Amazon, and the Swiss make good quality equipment.

Do they make a shorter strong enough for dispatching pellet gun comparable to a cricket 22?

Marauder woods walker comes to mind and there are other makes as well but nothing you would consider a holsterable much less pocketable pistol.

I watched a trapper video the other day of a guy using a pellet gun for dispatching coon. He traps like 1000 or more a season.

His claim its not a problem with law enforcement as its in the back of this pickup. A head shot and remove the animal.

He's using the trap that catches their foot down in.

The rifle was a spring cocking version.

So some stuff.
Now slugs are kinda a new thing and they work about different then pellets . There not 100% non interchange but their also not 100% interchangeable. Honestly if you not going to be pissing the long range air gun hunting game I don't see too much point then them when you have speciality pellets like the HADES.

Also remember when it comes to springers or nitro positions DO NOT SHOOT THEM LIKE A REGULAR RIFLE. They have a double recoil and at harmonic nightmares they generally WILL NOT generally shoot well if you try to shoot them as you wouldn't anything else. Ive had a lot of guys in ox me saying how they couldn't keep anything in a group smaller then a pie plate @ 25 yd . 9/10 times their tying to shoot it like a regular gunAlso they will break scopes that are not air gun rated ..I'm not joking. If your $700 leupold isn't airgun rated a $100 springers will break it usually before you get though a tin of pellets.

Personally I'd go with a PCP their stupid Cheap now days

I have about 450 bucks in my 22 cal. PCP gun. It is a cheaper Beeman gun. I think I got the gun and the hand pump air pump for around 300$ and I put a 150$ Hammers air rifle scope on it. I can shoot 1" groups at 25 yards off a bench most of the time shooting Crosman Premire hollow point pellets. I'm sure the gun is more accurate than I am. Hand pumping it up to 3000 psi can be hard especially if you are a fat, out-of-shape, a pack of smokes a day guy like me. I got it at Pyramid Air online.

Good thing it is a 700$ Leupold scope. They will fix it for you if it breaks!!
