Thanks. It was shot. Those red shells were 3" F shot if I remember correctly. They were. All the old timers I grew up coyote hunting with have just about all died off now. Its tanned, we sent it off to moyles or whatever. I'm 46 now. I've hunted coyotes since I was about 14. This is the only one I ever kept. I had a red one I should have kept and kick myself for not keeping it. It was pretty like a fox. Then I would have kept a typical one hanging between the two but the black one had just hung there for so long by itself not doing anything it seemed dumb to tan a red one to just hang there too at the time.

I've only ever seen one black one here in ohio. I was in a tree stand bowhunting and it never came close enough for a shot. I trapped the area the next year but never saw it again. When we used to hunt them we got a lot of red ones. I haven't caught many red ones in the last 5-6 years though.

I got this guy on camera a few weeks ago but unfortunately somebody shot him on a neighboring property a day or so after the pic was taken, before I got the chance to pinch him. Probably the closest I'll ever get to one!
