I've read about people using a bear paw snare for mountain lions.
When I google "bear paw snare" I find a 5 gallon bucket with a hole in the lid and a snare set on the hole.

Is this what is meant by using a bear paw snare ti catch a lion?
If so, just put bait in the back of the bucket.

Thank you for any response or advice for lion trapping.

They have foot snares that work like leghold trap. That's probably what they are talking about. I know they use them for snow leopard research.

If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

PM me with any questions. When I worked for USDA in Arizona in the 80s we developed our own style of foot snare specifically for lion trapping. I have used them extensively. (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas) I prefer them to large traps for lions as you can significantly reduce the non-target issues and a non-target release is easier. As with large traps precautions have to be taken around livestock and wild ungulates to prevent access to them. Only time I use traps for lions anymore is if I am also trapping for bobcats and coyotes at the same time.
