I tapped trees yesterday. Plan on boiling tomorrow. Bought a small bucket RO unit. Looking forward to trying it out. Hoping it will cut my boiling time by a third to a half.
Who else has tapped?

We are going to have a couple of good days then cold. Only ok to tap now if on vacuum.. Can you give anymore info on small bucket RO? I only put out about 100 taps but buy sap from neighbors who put out about 250 buckets.

I put 300 taps in today on vacuum hope to cook Thursday. I built a small RO a few years back takes the sap from 2.5% to 8%. Makes cooking so much faster

We do not do vacuum, but have one woods with gravity and all the rest are with plastic 5 and 6 gallon buckets. We don't plan to tap until the last days of February due to vacations etc. Hope we don't miss some or all of the runs.
Where we take sap to cook for us he has not tapped as he is sawing lumber for customers right now. He has an Amish neighbor who has over 20 gallons of syrup made already.

I pulled the taps today. Only cooked 2 batches. Crazy year!
The R.O. unit works nice. Probably only used 1/2 the wood as before. With the time to run the R.O. unit before cooking, it probably ends up about the same total time. My Red Maples ran about 1.5 on the hydrometer. After running through the R.O. it measured 3.5 to 4.

Putting out buckets, tubs and barrels tomorrow. Will tap the first trees probably Sunday. Lot of wind damage to our gravity line this year. Lots to fix and those darn squirrels!!!

Don't know your weather in your state, but here, it's not good for good syrup making.
It's way out of normal limits.
Trees may leaf out next month.
