Just wondering what to look for to determine it’s not a reproduction also what a price range might be if it’s not 2000-4000? No idea just throwing #s out there. I’m referring to a 6 size trap.also if you could recommend a good book on this type of info.Would appreciate any advice
Thanks

One of the most important things to look for on an Animal Trap Company #6 trap is the casting marks on the top of the jaws. There should be 10 casting marks, 5 on each jaw. One mark over each jaw leg and each tooth. There are a couple of exceptions to this rule, if the jaws were cast without teeth, last model after 1975, there will be 8 casting marks like the trap on the right in the photo. The other exception is not common, the early ATC #6 traps have jaws that were made by Oneida Community and acquired by ATC when they bought out the trap business, these jaws show no casting marks, these are also the jaws used on the patent date #6. There are many different swivels that were used on the #6 ATC.

Great pictures fun to look at other people's stuff, not to lead astray from the subject but couldn't help but notice maybe a 4 1/2 in there with a odd chunk of chain on it?

That chain is lager than normal, but it is not complete. I have seen similar chain on other #4 1/2 Newhouse.

Here is that chain in the center, standard #4 1/2 chain on top and Canadian #4 1/2 chain on the bottom.
