I've not trapped for several years, but now have some beaver and coyote to trap. I plan on getting new traps and equipment and hope you guys can make suggestions for equipment you feel you could not do without. I need lures, conibears, coil spring traps, hammers, snares, dirt-hole tools, etc. I will be trapping coyotes with the possibility of catching dogs, so I need a foot-friendly trap. I still have a few stabilizers for my conibears and snares left but the person I bought from is no longer in business. I have noticed a lot more k9 traps have hit the market since I last trapped. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm located In North Mississippi.

Thanks,

Mudcat

For trap stands for body grips, I would look at the V stands from RBH because they're just so versatile. I make my own version because I tend to lose them off my sled in deep water lol.

I want high-quality equipment to work with. Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten. Thanks for the suggestions.

I don't plan on trapping for the live market. What are trappers running down your way for the live market? I talked with a guy this week who snares them live. I used to know a lot of fox hunters but sadly most have passed away. I'm close to Tupelo. Thanks for the invite. If you are ever up this way give me a heads-up.

For a quality trap that can be used in most states as far as jaw spread is concerned, I don’t think you can go wrong with an MB 550. They are pretty easy on feet , easy to set and bed.

The 550 is on my list for consideration. Do you play golf?

Thanks,

Had the chance to handle the Freedom Brand Alpha today. Looks identical to the MB550 but with a dogless pan setup. It latched onto a piece welded on the bottom of the jaw rather than on top like the Bridger Dogless. Looks nice.

I have a bunch of old golf balls. How do you use them?

I wanted something to keep a coyote working a set longer so after a year or so of trial and error I came up with The Golf Ball Set, lol. I use a 3” auger and drill a hole almost strait down 13” deep . I use the tip of a toothpick full of powder river paste bait and top it off with a golf ball. The location puts the coyote in the vicinity, the powder river gets his nose over the hole, the golf ball keeps his attention until he puts his left front foot on the pan . [Linked Image]

I'll give it a try, but not with my $4 Pro V1's! Thanks for sharing.
