I found my second golf ball while out in the woods horn hunting last week. The first 20 or 30 years ago was 10 or 15 miles from the nearest course with a 4000 feet gain in elevation and over the Selkirk mountain range. The closest road was 1/2 mile away and steep down hill. Thursday I found one near my house about 6 miles from the nearest course. I am at the end of the road and we put our house in 3 years ago and only we have lived here. I am not a golfer so not sure where the balls are coming from. What strange objects have you all found?

Certain wild animals have been known to swallow them (some domestics too)
Could have been subsequently "dropped" about anywhere.
Maybe give the next one a sniff .... see if its fresh smile

Crows have been known to pick them up and fly off with them.

Crows or coons. I was covering my DP’s with them and kept having them disappear. Ended up finding the den tree when I saw my golf balls at the opening. Thought I’d taken care of the issue until they started disappearing again. A camera showed me crows were also guilty, lol. I was really hoping I’d catch one trying to get the bait out, but they never really messed with the bait, just the golf balls.

I had a golf corse ask me to trap a coyote that was stealing golf balls, I opted to turn the job down because it was in town and the risk of catching a dog. Figured a big live trap might just make us look bad without success. I heard they found a hole with hundreds of golf balls a few years later.

Some hunters place a golf ball under the hide of a deer and then put a loop of rope around the ball. The other end of the rope is used to pull the hide off of the deer. I have only done this with a truck, but I suppose an ATV might be able to do it. This all assumes someone wanted to skin a deer in the woods rather than at camp or home.

I think this is a low probability for explaining why the balls were near your home.
