Had an opportunity to get my grandson out in the marsh this weekend. 40s plus both yesterday and today. Ideal temps and conditions for a first grader.

We set out six colony traps yesterday, picked 'em up today, and collected 8 muskrats.

They're hanging to dry and we'll be skinning and grinning tomorrow. No school 'til Tuesday. The smiles say it all. His first time with the muskrats.

When he turned 5 he got his first hooped pelt. Muskrat it was. 6th was a mink and a red fox for his 7th. So far he wants a beaver for his 8th. If I live long enough he'll have a nice collection by the time he graduates. He's eager, I'll give him that.

Never had a son. My daughter loved fishing and deer camped several times and did score a deer one year. But trapping wasn't part of it. This young man is just what the doctor ordered.
