Miss Susan talked me into taking her to see a young singer from Del Rio (Wm Beckman) who obviously writes all of his own songs. I do not know if he writes his own music but as well as he plays the guitar and the harmonica, I suspect he does. Anyway, one of his better songs guitar line was The Strawberry Roan. About every cowboy singer has covered it and I know it when I hear it.

In terms of actual musical notes there are only so many combinations that are playable and sound good. With possibly a million if not more songs written, I have no idea on the number just that it is a lot, note combinations are going to be repeated whether intentionally or not. I had this discussion with a guitarist I know over a year ago and we did some research into it.
